Rail
Consolidation attacks the underpinnings
of excessive air pollution by shifting long
term transit patterns in the City of Fresno—
• Vehicles
will no longer pollute the air while
waiting for passing surface-level
trains. • Bus
ridership should increase when bus delays
at crossing gates are eliminated. • BNSF’s
corridor can be used for non-polluting
bikeways, trails and/or (possibly)
quiet elevated transit. • High
Speed Rail becomes more viable, with
Fresno’s choke point eliminated. • Trains
spend less time moving through Fresno,
at more efficient speeds.
The
Rail Consolidation Project is vulnerable
to procrastination, if FARRC lacks the funds
to continue its role as a politically independent
group dedicated to pushing the schedule
forward. MOVE-THE-TRACKS TO CLEAN-THE-AIR
PARTNERSHIP will assure that FARRC can continue
its educational role promoting the air quality
benefits of the public works project.
As we proceed
forward with our partnership with Valley - CAN, these
pages will outline our progress and will also be a source
of information as well as an informational site for
"Move-TheTracks & Clean-The-Air" projects
and events. If you would like to become involved
